Website protection software should be about protecting data and media and not about preventing server exploits from the upload of malicious files that can be run remotely. But unfortunately the anti-virus software industry chooses to promote its wares where it hopes to get attention. Better to close the gate before the horses have bolted, and by saying that, I mean that the prevention of uploading malicious files and preventing their capacity to be run remotely falls upon the webmaster or site owner, because it is only through their carelessness that such a thing can happen.
Having been the webmaster and network administrator of server farms for many years, I can tell you that I have never employed anti-virus software on a web server. Mainly because there is no need to provide if some care is taken with which file types can be uploaded to a web site, how they are stored and more importantly, what execute permissions are applied to those files.
In any case, anti-virus software will be useless in most cases because they rely on known patterns and all a hacker needs to do is create something unique and it is all over but for the extensive cleanup and time consuming restoration from a backup, if such a thing exists. All anti-virus software is good for is protecting newly-born web surfers from themselves.
No, to me "site protection software" should be about protecting the web site contents from exploit, plagiarism and if need be, content thieves and data miners who will steal your content to create web sites of interest for the sole purpose of selling ads. Website protection can also be about preventing the download and copy for redistribution and thus protecting one's livelihood. Whether the content is tutorial, scientific or entertaining, it will have cost considerable time and money to produce, and its Copyright will more than likely belong to you. Don't you think that investment should be protected?
But there is not much available in the way of website protection software today due to the lack of support provided by popular web browsers who would rather please their users by offering up your intellectual property in more ways than most are aware. Sure you could use one of those WordPress plugins for "content protection" but they are all entirely useless because all they actually do is remove some of the options that can be used to copy things from a web page by using right-mouse-click. The user is still free to download and save the page in entirety, with all JavaScripts, CSS and images neatly stored in a folder for upload to any web site of their choice. They are still free to print and still free to use media grabbing software to find images, video and other media for direct download.
So if you do need site protection and looking for the best website protection software, look at the ArtistScope Site Protection System (ASPS) which provides the most secure and extensive protection for all web data and media that has ever been imagined. ASPS is so secure it comes with its own web browser.
